On July 24th, friends and supporters of the Cedar Tree Institute met to celebrate the Institute’s diverse programs and join in an evening of gratitude for the planting of 500 Northern white cedar trees in the Yellow Dog Community Forest.
This summer’s effort was led Ian Parkkonen, a 15-year-old young man working on his Eagle Scout Award.
37 volunteers were involved from all walks of life.
The First Presbyterian Church in Big Bay, along with Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette, served as our host meeting sites.
62 of the trees were donated by members of Beth Sholom Temple, the Jewish community that has just relocated their synagogue on Ridge Street here in Marquette.
